The Elementary Department works with
children by an encouraging and creative manner to teach the basic
subjects of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Many times the students are involved with discovering the “Hows” and
“Whys” and incorporating experiments and discussions into the subjects.
Students are further challenged with
classes in Music, Art, Library, PE, Spanish, Computers, and Bible. The
Music class presents a winter musical where all the CSK students are
included, as well as shorter productions throughout the year. From the
Art class several works are selected to enter the Houston Rodeo Art Show
competition. In Library the students are exposed to the writings of old
favorite and new authors. They also learn to use the Dewey Decimal
System to locate books. PE encourages the students to develop team
spirit and good sportsmanship. The Spanish class teaches the students
the basic foundation of a foreign language and the Computer class covers
the basics of keyboarding, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the
students creating examples in each area.
At CSK, coursework comes alive through
educational field trips to the zoo, theatre productions, the Houston
Museum of Natural Science, the Medical Museum, and Art Museum. Students
in Third Grade spend an overnight at Glen Rose, visiting Dinosaur Valley
State Park, Fossil Rim, and seeing “The Promise”. Fourth Grade visits
many places in Texas history as they study Texas. In addition, there are
many character-developing activities and experiences. These present some
of the best educational opportunities, as children discover how the
subjects they study apply in the world.
Our annual Science Fair is open to all
elementary students. Many CSK students advance to district-level
competition at the Humble ISD Science and Engineering Fair. Fourth Grade
students write research papers for the Daughters of the Republic of
Texas and the Fifth Grade students write papers for the Daughters of the
American Revolution.
Our elementary students wear
attractive school uniforms that help the children become a proud part of
the school group as a whole while keeping the focus on learning.
